Being happy when times are tough can seem absolutely impossible when you are the one going through difficult times. When life's light begins to dim, it can become easy to lose your sense of brightness. Reality is, life won't always be bright. In all honesty, life has will provide you with many difficult times. Some people will have more difficult times than others and some to different degrees than others. One thing we all have in common is our potential to smile in a dark place, and with unlocking that potential, finding happiness during difficult times. In this article I will be discussing the secret to unlocking your potential in being able to smile in a dark place, creating your own light in a dim room.
Count Your Blessings
Not everyone was gifted with money, a happy family, or even good health. With that being said, if you are reading this article you were gifted with enough money to either have a phone or computer, the ability to read, and life in general. You are here...ALIVE, as there are countless people who have lost their ability to live without a choice. Regardless of your situation, there is always a reason to be thankful. Sure, life could be better...but it could also be much worse. Act through life with the mentality that life could be better, but appreciate your life for being better than it could be.
Obstacle Versus Opportunity
Just like with any situation, we always have a choice. During difficult times we can either frown about the obstacles in our life or we can smile about the opportunities our difficult situation potentially provides. You see, the need for change is followed by the potential to improve. When life is not the way you want it, change is in order. By realizing this demand for change as an opportunity for improvement, you can stop dwelling in the darkness and start smiling in it to create your own light.
Cultivating Positivity (Creating Your Own Light)
Life is not always about being able to find the light in the darkness. Sometimes it is about creating your own light. Cultivating positivity is an amazing way of doing just that (creating light). A good way of doing so is smiling even when you are not happy. How so? Smiling and positive gestures turns into more smiling and positive gestures. Have you ever made anyone you love or care about smile, just to realize that smile of theirs gave you a huge smile from ear to ear? Positivity is contagious and so is negativity. By being negative, you perform negative acts...resulting in negative feedback. This feedback further spirals you into a dark abyss of negativity. By cultivating positivity, you "fake smile" could make someone else smile, resulting in REAL HAPPINESS for you and the other person. Your acts of opening the door for someone, saying "thank you?, or helping someone could brighten your day by the positive reaction you get. You see, cultivating positivity is not a means of being fake. Rather, it's about planting the seeds of positivity. The more you plant, the more there is to harvest when the time is right. Cultivating positivity is your means of creating light in a dark place and smiling as you slowly brighten up the room of your life more and more.
Life is not always a bright place. Sometimes you find yourself in a dark place wondering if life will ever become bright again. During difficult times, the key to holding strong is learning to smile in a dark place. Counting your blessing is the first part of bringing light to a dark situation. Though life could be better, it could be incredibly worse. After you realizing life can in fact be better, you must also realize that dark times provide opportunity. You won't always be in a dark place, but in order to get out of the darkness you must learn to see the need for change. With a need for change, comes the potential for improvement. A way of improving your situation before getting out of the dark is to cultivate positivity. By giving positivity, you give yourself the opportunity to be exposed to the positivity of others. This creation of a "positivity chain" is a way of creating your own light. Smiling in a dark place is not about it being dark. Rather, it is about your ability to brighten the room through the power of how you perceive and approach life.
