Fear Of The Unknown
Do you remember your last time in an ocean or lake? Maybe that last walk you had in the dark where you have not been before? If you do, then you can remember that uneasy feeling you felt, not knowing what was there and what was going to happen. That same feeling can be felt in our daily lives as we worry about and fixate on the future. Not knowing can be the worst OR EVEN THE BEST part of any situation, depending on your perception. In this article I will be covering overcoming the fear of the unknown and using that sense of "not knowing" in order to improve your life with every opportunity.
Worry About The Now
Have you ever ran up down stairs, focusing on where you were going rather than focusing on running down the stairs? The same concept can be used for your daily actions towards any given situation. When you worry about what is going to happen, you forget what is happening and what needs to be done NOW. We tend to focus entirely on the outcome, that we forget it's the process that creates the outcome. By focusing on what we are doing now, gives us the ability to change the future.
What Could Go Right?
The biggest part of fearing the unknown is the fear itself. This fear is derived from our own self doubt and negative perception of the future. If you can't help but fixate on the future, the best thing is to not look at what could go wrong....but WHAT COULD GO RIGHT! Afraid of asking someone out? What's the worst thing that could happen, a no? But what if they reply with a yes? What if that fear holding you back is what's holding you back from a long term relationship with someone you fully connect with, makes you happy, and supports your endeavors with all their might? If you ask me, that's worth a few (even a lot of) no's. Though merely an example, that example can relate to any other situation in your life. Daily, the fear of not knowing how well a job will go holds people back from pursuing a career they truly enjoy and would become successful at. Instead of asking yourself what could go wrong, ask yourself what could go right!
Create Your Own Future
The best way to predict the future is to create it. Too many times we fear without preparation, doubt without action, and back-out without trying. Fear is a product of lack of preparation, action, and persistence. In order to overcome our fear of what will happen we must put ourselves in the right position to succeed.
In order to overcome the fear of the unknown you must focus more on what is going on, think of what could go "right" in the situation, and create your own future by taking action. Fear derives from lack of preparation, lack of optimism, and lack of actions. Control today, and you can control your future.
