The BEST Mass Gainer Supplements For Ectomorphs
Majority of the population is stuck on the idea that losing weight is rocket-science and is somehow impossible due to their "genetics". If you don't happen to be one of the majority, then what is left are those of us who struggle to gain size. Though the fat loss seekers may cry that these people are lucky, struggling to gain weight means struggling to put on size. This can be a HUGE problem when your main physique goal is to pack on slabs of muscle. What's worse than being called ugly? SKINNY! Okay, maybe not...but it's sure a close second. No man who goes to the gym wants to be called skinny. For females being called skinny is a compliment, but for men being called skinny means you need to put in more effort to put on size. Skinny jeans and "skinny boy abs" are out and having some serious mass is in! Time of the skinny jeans is over and it's time for the ectomorphs to put on some size!
What Makes These The Best?
Before we get into the best mass gainer supplements for ectomorphs, we must cover what makes all of these supplements the best. When trying to put on size you must be able to have enough energy/fuel to push your body's limits, recover from your work outs, have enough calories to be in a caloric surplus. These supplements listed below will have enough protein in order to improve your natural recovery ability, enough carbohydrates and fats in order to fuel your work outs and give you the energy you need to push your body's limits, and will be higher in calories in order to help put you in a caloric surplus. Now that we know what makes these supplements the best for ectomorphs to pack on some serious size, let's get into the actual supplements!
"WHAT? That's not a supplement". On the contrary it is. No, this is not anything fancy or spammed across the internet, but olive oil and coconut oil are both two of the best mass gaining supplements. Though these oils are low in protein (pretty much 0 grams of protein), these oils provide an amazing source of energy (healthy fats) while providing an outstanding level of calories for just a small amount. One tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil provides 120 calories. ONE TABLESPOON!!! That's quite a bit of calories for such a small amount. A common use for olive/coconut oil for gaining weight is to add it to your protein shakes, on your bread, in your rice, on your meats, or on your vegetables. I personally use it with all of these options as it is just insanely easy to get in those extra calories I need to gain weight.
Pasta is by far my carbohydrate of choice. Pasta can help fill all of your macronutrient needs and give you the calories that you need to be in that caloric surplus. Unlike olive oil (which is used as a supplement to your meals/shakes), pasta can be a meal in itself or mixed in with other food. A meal example I use myself is 4 cups of dried pasta with 4 tablespoons of olive oil. The pasta levels out to 225.5 grams of carbohydrates, 5.5 grams of fat, 38.5 grams of protein, and 1100 calories. The olive oil levels out to 480 calories and 56 grams of fat. This "mass gainer meal" calculates to 1580 calories, 225.5 grams of carbohydrates, 61.5 grams of fat, and 38.5 grams of protein. Not bad for one meal.
Peanuts, Almonds, And Other Nut/Legume Snacks
One of the biggest issues I find for those trying to gain weight is that they are limiting their meals. I hear countless time from skinny individual's that they "eat so much". The problem with this perception of eating a lot is I ask them how often and the usual reply is 1-3 big meals. Now, I would expect 1-3 big meals as minimum for anyone in particular, not just those struggling to gain weight. The art of gaining weight when you have a high metabolism isn't just about adding more calories to that specific meal, but you must also add calories in between those meals. Your body does not just gain weight because you want it to. You must give it a reason to grow. By providing yourself with high calorie, high protein, and high healthy fat snacks you give your body that extra fuel it needs to rebuild big and strong. A common recommendation would be to have a bag of trail mix or nuts with you through out the day. Every hour or so eat a small handful of the nuts/trail mix that you have (I say every so often because most people struggling to gain weight do not eat frequently). These small handfuls in between meals will add up to a huge surplus in calories and give you the caloric surplus you have been fighting to achieve all along.
Mass Gainer Supplements
Yes, finally to the actually "supplements" for ectomorphs. Just like everything above has a spot in your mass gainer supplementation, so does actual "mass gainer supplements". These "mass gainers" are typically composed of a high amount of calories, macronutrients (high amount of each macronutrient, not just one), and added ingredients such as amino acids or creatine (or a combination of both and other ingredients). Mass gainer supplements should be added in to your diet and not as a replacement for anything. What does that mean? That means if you are already having a post workout shake or have already planned dinner, then there is no reason to use the mass gainer supplement instead. Rather, these supplements should be used when you are not able to (or are not willing to) stomach down some whole food calories. Most people who struggle to gain weight would benefit from consuming any mass gainer product right when they wake up or right before bed. Why? Because most people struggle to stomach down food around the time they wake up and most individuals do not want to consume a lot of whole foods before bed (due to not wanting to feel bloated). Mass gainer's can also be very convenient for getting in a high amount of calories on the go. Thinking of mass gainer supplements as an add-on supplement, not a meal replacement, will give you the best bang for your buck (they are not cheap).
Some think of mass gaining supplements as just well, mass gainer supplements. Mass gainer supplements do not have to be in powder form, nor do they have to be expensive (though adding in a mass gainer complex to your already high calorie diet can help those who are truly struggling). Once we start thinking of food as we do supplements and supplements as well....actual supplements (added in, but not our main source of nutrition), then we will all acquire the physiques we desire. Diet is key to any goal and if you want to get big, you have to eat big....Period!
